Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to visit the tree, read what PosSum stands for, join the list and buy things. Parts of the site are 3D games, and some of those are harder to make accessible than a page of text. This page says where things stand.
Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA for pages of text and forms: these legal pages, the password page, the fund page and the Arcade quiz cabinets. For the 3D treehouse and the games, we provide keyboard access, screen reader shortcuts and motion settings, and offer other routes to everything that matters (see below).
What works today
- Screen reader shortcuts in the treehouse. Press Tab after the intro and a hidden menu appears listing every object in the room (call box, jukebox, vending machine, the branches, the trunk). The lookout has its own menu.
- Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the treehouse skips the opening animation and shortens transitions, and pages turn off blinking and scrolling text.
- Sound control. Sound can be switched off from the title screen.
- Keyboard play. The treehouse, Velocity, Wreck Deck and the Arcade can be played with a keyboard.
- Velocity settings. Velocity has its own reading settings: text size, high contrast, reduced motion and a plainer font. It follows your system's contrast and motion settings unless you change them.
- Announcements. The Arcade and the call box announce new questions, results and messages to screen readers.
- Text size. There is no site-wide text size control yet. Use your browser's zoom; text pages like this one reflow up to 400% without sideways scrolling.
Known limitations
- The treehouse, the lookout and the saucer are drawn on a canvas at low resolution with dithering. The small pixel text inside the scene does not scale with browser text settings, and screen readers cannot read it. The shortcut menus and dialogs carry the same information as text.
- Velocity and Wreck Deck depend on timing and fine control. They have no screen reader support for the action itself.
- Wreck Deck currently blocks pinch-zoom on phones. We plan to remove that.
- Some pixel-art labels and decorations inside the scenes are below 4.5:1 contrast.
- The jukebox record has no transcript.
- Some member-area apps are separate programs and have not yet been reviewed.
Other ways to do the important things
- Mailing list: email hello@possum.ing and we will add you.
- Shop: every product sold in the games is also listed in the standard Shopify store at [SHOP URL], which works with screen readers and keyboard. when the shop is live
- Discoveries that unlock products: if a game barrier stops you reaching one, email us and we will unlock it for you.
- What PosSum is about: the manifest in the call box is also available as text on request.
Tell us about a barrier
Email hello@possum.ing with the subject "Accessibility". Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what got in the way. If you use assistive technology, tell us which one and your browser. We aim to reply within 5 business days and will tell you what we will change and when.
How we checked
This statement is based on our own review on 16 October 2026: keyboard testing, automated contrast checks of text pages, and testing at phone and desktop sizes. There has been no independent audit yet.
